My fitness journey started back in 2008 when I was 15.
I've never been overweight, but at a young age I developed body image issues and suffered bullying, largely from perceived societal expectations and an inner need to look a certain way to be accepted.
I was always highly anxious and had low self-esteem, which in turn created unhealthy habits with food and exercise as it was the only thing I felt like I had control of in my life.
I’d run every day for hours on end, avoid certain foods at all costs due to thinking they would make me 'fat', I’d punish myself with exercise if I ate something I deemed “ bad” and consume anywhere from 500-1000 calories a day until eventually I was diagnosed with Anorexia. At the time, I felt isolated and depressed and knew there had to be more to life than this.
It wasn’t until I hired a coach who educated me on various exercise and nutrition myths, until finally I started to see some changes; my mentality ultimately shifted from being scared to put on weight to embracing healthy weight gain.
Since starting training for performance rather than to 'look good', I've developed self-confidence, self-belief and most importantly self-love.
I’ve faced mental challenges at every step along the way, but with a supportive coach, mindset and correct training programs, my days of letting food & exercise consume my life are over.
